i spoke this morning to christopher john riley. editor of the speak easy blog for the "wall street journal." a couple of things he said. one of them, arnold schwarzenegger actually alludes to them getting back together again. what that means, who knows. in his mind he speaks of them getting back together again. when maria found out about that child it was during couples counseling. they were supposed to go to counseling in order for them to transition from him being a governor and going back into private life. the first question that she had that was asked was, is is this your child? i believe this is your child. >> it's as if she was waiting to ask that question. >> he even said the kid started to look like him as he got older and it became clear. >> he accomplished a lot of good things as governor. the big question this book begs, why write the book? he's already a multimillionaire. he's as famous as he's going to be. >> his launching his institute. he's moving into a new phase. >> this helps with the launch of the institute. >>

bush and john mccain. this is "the daily rundown." i am chuck todd. let's get to the first reads of the morning. in the last two weeks, we polled in nine battleground states deciding the election. ohio, florida, virginia, colorado, iowa, wisconsin, north carolina, nevada, new hampshire. bad news for mitt romney, he doesn't lead in a single one. at best within the poll's margin of error. at worst, trails by eight points. this morning, how the nine states stack up. we said it again and again. the president's job approval rating may be the best indicator of where the bout may be. where it is more than 50, the president favored to win. iowa, florida, new hampshire, ohio, virginia, his approval rating below that, 47 or 48 in four. colorado, nevada, north carolina, wisconsin. here is a second way to breakdown the numbers. romney struggled with favorability number all year. that number underwater, more voters have unfavorable than favorable view in six states. romney is in positive territory in just three. florida, north carolina, virginia. finally, a third

the president had the one on one with john mccain in his last debates. is there any similarity before we talk about the differences, there any similarity in their style that you've noted? >> well, i think both of them in the past have benefited by the very fact that the people they were debating with often seen themselves to be a little overroute, to seem to be caught up in things and not quite under control. and i think the test tonight is, that both of them will face somebody that's usually pretty controlled in the way they come at things. the last time that president obama was in debates like this, it was his confidence, his -- in a sense quiet reserve in some ways in contrast to an excitability that we saw in mccain. other than the absence of emotion can be very devastating as it with you to dukakis in the debate against bush. part is how the real character comes through in terms of suggesting their ability to be presidential. >> and what do you -- >> shown to be. >> what do you see as the major difference in the two men that could be that revealing
